What your plan covers for therapy, psychiatry and treatments like TMS, what you’ll likely pay, and how to find a provider in your network. Pick your insurer.
Usually, yes. Marketplace (Affordable Care Act) plans must cover mental health care, including therapy and psychiatry, as an essential health benefit, and most employer plans cover it too. Medicare covers therapy under Part B, and Medicaid covers mental health care in every state.
Federal parity law adds a protection: when a plan covers mental health, it can’t make that care harder to use than medical care, for example with higher copays or stricter limits on visits.
What you actually pay depends on your plan’s copay or coinsurance, your deductible, and whether the provider is in your network. To check, call the member services or behavioral health number on your insurance card, or pick your insurer below.
